Adventure Drives the Future of Travel

Once considered a niche portion of the tourism market, adventure travel has officially become a heavy hitter in the industry.

According to a recent report from the Adventure Travel Trade Association, adventure travel represents a $188 billion market in North America and a $1.16 trillion market globally. The report also found 64% of travelers from North America (U.S. and Canada) are open to adventure in various forms, including active experiences, exploring nature and cultural immersion.

So, we dedicate this month’s Leisure Group Travel, the Adventure Travel issue, to that quickly growing demographic.

The June edition of LGT dives into the adventure travel market headfirst as we take readers across a wide range of unforgettable destinations and experiences. Our Adventure Travel Trade Association guide features compelling pieces, picturesque photos and tells how the ATTA is a global leader in shaping the future of responsible, experience-rich tourism.

LGT’s popular Faces of Adventure Travel series shines a spotlight on the tourism industry as we interview industry leaders who share their perspectives on how the sector is shifting, from redefining luxury and sustainability to empowering local communities. LGT also features an insightful piece from Arival co-founder Douglas Quinby, who explores why multi-day tours remain one of the travel industry’s most complex and dynamic sectors.

We even cross the country and explore the waterways and hidden outdoor gems of Ohio, visit Michigan’s charming small towns and discover short excursions in New England that deliver the perfect amount of adventure.

Not to be forgotten, LGT features the 2026 Travel Alliance Partnership Dream Destinations magazine which focuses on TAP’s Preferred Destination Guild Member regions, renowned for their distinctive accommodations, fabulous cuisine, historic landmarks and more.

As summer travel season begins, there has never been a better time to embrace the outdoors. Just be sure to bring this month’s copy of LGT with you. You never know when you’ll need it.

Happy travels,
Jason Paha, Chief Editor
