What Seniors Need To Pack for an Active Vacation

Expert Advice, Outdoor & Adventure

Going on a group trip with all your friends is a fantastic way to pass the time during your golden years. The restorative nature can reinvigorate your life and add precious memories to your mental rolodex.

However, as you age, you need to consider everyone’s current situation when choosing a destination. This is also true for what you must take with you on the trip. With that in mind, here is what seniors need to pack for an active vacation.

Sunscreen

If you plan on traveling somewhere warm, you must bring sunscreen to protect yourself from skin damage. Sunscreen shields your body from the sun’s harmful UV rays, and it comes in a few different types.

Aerosol sunscreen allows you to simply spray it on, but keep in mind that the wind might blow some of your sunscreen away from your body. Nonetheless, it’s the best way to make sure that you apply sunscreen to those hard-to-reach areas, because all you have to do is point and spray. For those with sensitive skin, be sure to look out for sunscreen with a higher SPF (Sun Protection Factor) rating so that you can fully protect yourself from sunburn.

Medications

Some members of your group might have life-saving medications that they must take daily in order for them to be healthy. Before you leave, make sure that everyone in your group has all their medications so that you can all safely have fun and not have to cut the trip short.

In addition, bringing a first aid kit is another good idea because you never know when you might need a band-aid or a pain reliever. If you are taking an extended trip, don’t forget to bring your medical insurance card and any prescriptions that you might need to refill.

Canes

Whether you all plan to hike through nature or walk on the beach together, making sure that everyone has their cane or walker will benefit you in the long run. Also, when you have mobility assistance at your disposal, you can see more sights on your trip.

This is one of the biggest advantages of using a walking stick for brisk walking. Although you might feel like you’ll be fine on your own, having a cane handy is better because you might need it later on, or you can let one of your friends borrow it.

Overall, you don’t have to go overboard with packing. Now that you know what seniors need to pack for an active vacation, you only have to pack the essentials.
