Museums in New York

New York is home to an incredible array of museums that few destinations can match.

At the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Uniondale, explore more than 150,000 square feet featuring 75 air and spacecraft from a hot air balloon to an actual Apollo Lunar Module and learn about Long Island’s role and why it is called the Cradle of Aviation. Its eight exhibit galleries are in chronological order and throughout the museum our volunteer docents are there to share their aerospace experience. There are more than 30 hands-on exhibits, a half dozen cockpits to climb into and many short films throughout the exhibits.

No Trip to New York is complete without a visit to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Founded in 1869, it is one of the world’s preeminent scientific, educational, and cultural institutions. The museum encompasses more than 40 permanent exhibition halls, including the Rose Center for Earth and Space with the Hayden Planetarium, and the Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation.

In Upstate Cooperstown, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is one of the most respected museums in the world. Groups can explore three floors of exhibit space where they will experience baseball history through artifacts on display, which showcase the important moments on the field as well as the game’s monumental impact on our society.

The New York State Museum in Downtown Albany explores the cultural and natural history of New York State. The museum features a variety of history, science and art exhibitions. Within the main exhibit halls are popular long-standing favorites, including Adirondack Wilderness, Birds of New York, Beneath the City: Albany Archeology, Black Capital: Harlem in the 20s, The Cohoes Mastodon, Fire Engine Hall and The World Trade Center: Rescue, Recovery, Response. There’s also a working full-sized carousel on the 4th floor of the Museum.
