100 Years of the Richard Rodgers Theatre
In 2024, we marked a monumental milestone: the 100th anniversary of the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Originally opened as the 46th Street Theatre in 1925, this historic venue has hosted some of Broadway’s most transformative works — from Guys and Dolls and Damn Yankees, to the record-breaking Hamilton, which has redefined a generation’s relationship with musical theatre.
The Rodgers has stood as a witness to the art form’s evolution, and as we honor its centennial, we reflect on the decades of storytelling that have unfolded within its walls — stories that continue to inspire, challenge, and unite audiences.
More Centennial Celebrations Ahead
Looking ahead, we are honored to soon celebrate 100 years of two more Nederlander landmarks: the Lena Horne Theatre (formerly the Brooks Atkinson) and the iconic Palace Theatre. These theatres have long been synonymous with Broadway magic — and their centennial anniversaries will be met with special programming, commemorative events, and exclusive group opportunities that you won’t want to miss.
These upcoming milestones aren’t just about the passage of time — they’re a celebration of community. The community of artists, audiences, and tour operators who make the Broadway experience a tradition passed down through generations.

Live theatre has always been more than entertainment — it’s an opportunity to educate, inspire, and spark conversation. At Broadway Direct Group Sales, we’re proud to support educators, group leaders, and tour operators in deepening the Broadway experience through complimentary, expertly curated study guides available on BroadwayDirect.com/groups.
These downloadable guides are designed to enhance learning before and after the show, whether you’re bringing a high school drama class, a university group, or a family-friendly tour. Each guide includes show-specific insights such as:
- Historical and cultural context.
- Discussion questions and writing prompts.
- Key themes, character breakdowns, and plot summaries
- Behind-the-scenes information about the production team and creative process
- Activities tied to English Language Arts, history, social studies, and theatre arts curricula.
Whether your group is seeing a thought-provoking drama, a musical rooted in real-life history, or a fantastical story that explores identity and belonging, these guides turn your group outing into a richer, more meaningful experience.
Teachers and chaperones especially appreciate how these materials promote critical thinking, engagement, and post-show dialogue. They’re also an ideal tool for pre-trip prep — helping students understand what they’ll see on stage and encouraging thoughtful participation in talkbacks or post-show discussions.
And it’s not just for students. Travel planners and adult groups also use our study guides as cultural enrichment tools — perfect for book clubs, alumni organizations, faith-based groups, and lifelong learners seeking a deeper connection to the content.
Access is completely free and available anytime. Just visit BroadwayDirect.com/groups to explore the growing library of study guides and show-based resources.
