The Prince Edward Island Walk by the Numbers

The Island Walk is a 700 km trail that loops around Prince Edward Island, offering an unforgettable long-distance walking adventure. It takes around 32 days to complete if you walk 20-25 km daily, though you can also explore it in sections, allowing for extended time in areas that captivate you.

The trail is composed of:

  • 50% (217 miles) of the Confederation Trail, featuring hard-packed, rolled stone dust
  • 25% (109 miles) on red dirt roads, paths, boardwalks, and active transportation routes
  • 25% (109 miles) along grassy shoulders of quiet secondary roads

This scenic route follows the island’s perimeter, weaving between inland and coastal stretches, with views from both North Cape and East Point. The Island Walk meanders through PEI’s two main cities, Charlottetown and Summerside, and passes through many charming small communities, completing a loop that returns walkers to their starting point.
