Day by Day:
Downtown Fredericksburg
The historic downtown district is filled with art galleries, antique shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes – and best of all, it’s easily walkable. Stop for a cool treat at Goolrick’s Pharmacy, home of America’s oldest soda fountain, browse the galleries for something wonderful to bring home and pick one of our chef-owned restaurants for a scrumptious lunch.
Belmont: Gari Melchers’ Home and Studio
Gari Melchers was one of America’s most popular artists of the early 1900s. He and his wife Corinne called this 18th century estate their home and here they lived a love story for the ages. Enjoy a tour of the home and studio and learn about this beautiful couple in a special presentation from the resident curator.
Potomac Point Winery
Just north of town, this award-winning winery finds a comfy home in an Italianate building amid rolling hills. You’ll be guided through a special progressive tasting with friendly and knowledgeable staff followed by a guided tour of the production facility for an up-close look at how great Virginia wine is made.
LibertyTown Art Center
What was once a plumbing supply store and warehouse is now home to more than 45 local artists working in an array of media including canvas, precious metals, glass, tiles, jewelry and fabric. Tour the studios and featured exhibit with a resident artist. Who knows, you may find the perfect piece to place on your mantle.
Pottery Making Workshop
In Fredericksburg you’ll not only get to see great art, you’ll get to make it, too. Have a ball designing and painting your own piece of pottery with instruction from an experienced potter. Your creation will be fired and glazed overnight and ready for you to take home to show off to your friends.
First Fridays Art Walk
On the first Friday of each month the streets of downtown Fredericksburg come alive as happy visitors and locals flock to enjoy the vibrant arts scene. All of the local art galleries are open after hours and the crowds turn out. Live music and food vendors provide the perfect accompaniment for a lovely and lively evening.
Riverside Theater for the Performing Arts
After a full and fulfilling day in Fredericksburg here’s the icing on the cake: a sumptuous dinner and live theater. Professional theater graces the stage with lively performances of hit Broadway classics. In December 2017 the Riverside Christmas Spectacular will be performed.
