Situated between Texas and Arizona, New Mexico abounds with natural splendors, from mountains, rivers and lakes to the underground majesty of Carlsbad Caverns. Cities like Albuquerque and Santa Fe offer enough shopping, dining and sights to fill a week or more. But visiting New Mexico would not be complete without an intimate encounter or two with its Native American heritage.

A visit to an Indian pueblo or archaeological site sheds light on early civilizations, but one of the best ways to discover the cultures of New Mexico’s first inhabitants is to take in a Native American festival, market, corn dance or feast day. Such events are held throughout the year in many parts of the state.
