Culinary Edition
The February 2017 issue of Leisure Group Travel capitalizes on the growing popularity of food and wine travel with culinary-themed reports from around the country and beyond.
Our cover story, “5 Great East Coast Food Markets,” spotlights food halls that offer fresh seafood, gourmet baked goods, artisan cheeses and ethnic delicacies. Places like Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia and New York City’s Chelsea Market provide good photo ops and chances to meet the locals while pleasing epicures and casual grazers alike, writes managing editor Randy Mink.
From Louisiana to the Carolinas, pit masters are smokin’ up a storm as our South Carolina-based associate publisher, Dave Bodle, relates in “12 Top Spots for BBQ” in the South. Any one of these favorite barbecue joints would be a tasty addition to a group itinerary.
Staff writer Miles Dobis looks at five Midwestern wine regions, detailing what groups can do in Illinois, Ohio, Missouri, Indiana and Michigan. In the Western states, discover agritourism opportunities at apple orchards, lavender farms, wineries, and herb and vegetable gardens. Rounding out the culinary coverage is a feature on Spain’s Basque Country, a paradise for foodies with its Rioja Alavesa wine region, Michelin-starred restaurants and pintxos (exquisite small bites) found in abundance at bars and cafes.
The February issue also serves up food for thought – in the form of our “Guide to Inspiring Museums,” a look at group-friendly U.S. treasure houses where travelers can satisfy their hunger for knowledge.
Bon appetite!
