Travcoa’s 2009 World Traveler’s Dream Book, just released to travelers and agents, is a celebration of the vibrant world cultures and far-flung destinations that have been hallmarks of the luxury travel company for 55 years.

Realizing guests are looking for options to personalize the company’s signature Escorted Journey, Travcoa provides recommendations for custom extensions throughout the glossy, 164-page catalog.

“Many of our travelers like the ease of small-group travel, but also want the flexibility to customize their travel and explore more on their own time,” President Randy Durband said. “Our guests can enjoy traveling with a like-minded group, and put a personal stamp on their travel experience.”

Travcoa recognizes Dubai is a favorite guest destination, and singled the city out in the Dream Book as an easy extension from almost anywhere in the world because of its hub airport. Travcoa negotiated a partnership with Emirates airline, based in Dubai, and is offering guests discounted business class fares and VIP amenities.

Travelers looking for an entirely customized journey will appreciate the sample private itineraries at the end of each section. Added for inspiration, the destinations range from Iran to Spain to Sri Lanka. Travcoa’s Custom Journey consultants handcraft each itinerary for guests, whether it’s a once-in-a-lifetime family reunion in Ireland or an extensive journey through India on a traveler’s private jet.

In addition to the customization options, two new journeys mark the 2009 Dream Book. “The Ancient Silk Road Escorted Journey” is a 22-day journey through China, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan that travels along the ancient caravan roads used by traders. Guests can explore markets and meet locals, while relishing in the history of cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Jiahoe and Xi’an.

On the “Regal Cities of Europe,” guests spend two weeks in Central Europe attending private events, such as a music recital at the Strahov Monastery in Prague, a Lipizzaner stallion training session at Vienna’s Spanish Riding School, a performance by the Vienna Boys’ Choir and a cultural performance at the Semper Opera House in Dresden.

A 2010 journey to the Oberammergau Passion Play is also included in the Dream Book because guests already are adding their names to the wait list. With a show only every 10 years, the epic performance draws thousands of travelers to Germany.

Travcoa, based in Newport Beach, Calif., was founded by M. William Dultz in 1954 and led the first American travelers to Nepal, with accommodations at the Royal Palace, in 1956. Since then, Travcoa has achieved many travel firsts, such as leading the first group of Americans to Easter Island in 1966 and to West Irian Jaya (also known as West Papua) in 1982. Travcoa established the first air-conditioned cruise up Papua New Guinea’s Sepik River in 1974 and arranged for the first gorilla-tracking safaris for tourists in Africa in 1977. More recently, Travcoa took the first American group of travelers to Vietnam in 1990 after the U.S. Department of State’s travel ban was lifted, and was the first luxury travel company to reintroduce travel to Libya in 2004.
