More than 50 volunteers from Collette Vacations and Tauck World Discovery recently joined together to tackle a wide range of maintenance and beautification projects at the Nuweetooun School, in Exeter, R.I., a program of the Tomaquad Museum and one of a handful of Native American schools in the Northeast. Nuweetooun provides a curriculum that integrates core educational standards, Native American culture and environmental studies for students in grades K to 8. The volunteer effort is one of the initiatives of Collette Vacations’ Collette Foundation, designed to improve the lives of children worldwide. At the event, Collette and Tauck volunteers teamed with members of the Nuwetooun School to paint the school’s entire exterior, its classrooms and library. Other projects included staining handicap access ramps, landscaping the school grounds and organizing storage and file space in the basement. During the project, students participated in a nature walk involving digital photography with volunteers who then aided them in creating personal posters from their photographs.
