But Big Brown Was 'Supposed' To Win PDF Print E-mail

Today's Lesson Is "BIG"

For those of you who didn't know it, Saturday was a huge day in the world
of horse racing. After thirty years, we were going to coronate another triple-crown
winner ... after thirty years.

According to everybody, including the horse's trainer, the other horses did not have
to show up on Saturday. The winning horse, BIG BROWN, was a forgone conclusion.
This is what was called a "shoe-in," a "no-brainer," a "lock.

[On Friday evening, I asked my wife if I could bet $1000 on the last place horse just
to make the race interesting for us. I was joking, of course. The odds where 36 - 1.
But I wasn't sure about the "lock" since I knew that there would be other horses in
the field who did not read the newspapers. I am not a gambler and I did not make the bet.]
Bottom Line: The "Lock," Big Brown, came in last.
Da' Tara won leading the race from wire to wire. Da' Tara? Who is Da' Tara?

The horse with the best odds for losing led from wire to wire and took home the first place trophy.
It paid $72 on a $2 bet. Incredible. But not the first time this has happened.

This makes for some great fodder as far as building a business goes.

Today's Message:
1. Don't read the newspapers.
2. Get up each day and show up for the races. Your races.
3. Even if you are a buffoon you will win a few against all odds.
4. If you have anything going for you, you will win more.
5. If you have something going for you, you will win your share.

But if you don't show up, or if you internalize all the negative forecasting going today,
I am afraid the race will pass you by and you will be left scratching your head asking
nobody in particular, "What happened?" You may even come up with a wagon full of excuses.

The point is not whether the best horse won or lost.
The fact is that Big Brown, the horse that was supposed to win, didn't.
The horse that had everything going for it did not win.

Back to you. I don't know if you are supposed to win or not in your business.
All I want to find out in time is, "Did you win?"
In your case, you are the horse, the trainer and the jockey.
Believe it or not, in your race you are also (too often) your greatest challenger.

It is Monday morning. You have just entered the gate. Your race is just about to start.
Now get out there and have some fun trying to win your race this week.

You Can Do It!
Mike Marchev
