The New Mexico Ski Museum has opened at the base terminal of the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque. It documents the history and development of skiing in the state and honors 15 individuals in the Ski Hall of Fame.

A commemorative plaque recognizes Robert Nordhaus for his work in the development of skiing in New Mexico. Nordhaus, who served in the famed 10th Mountain Division during World War II, developed Sandia Peak Ski Area and was co-founder of the Sandia Peak Tramway. A trip to Europe inspired Nordhaus to build a tram that would connect Albuquerque to the top of Sandia Peak, combining first-rate views with efficient transportation for skiers. The museum is free and open year-round. Sandiago’s Mexican Grill is upstairs. (www.sandiapeak.com)
