Emotional Intelligence — The True Professional’s Trump Card

I’m afraid I am as guilty as the next former athlete when it comes to remembering the glory days. It seems like that the older I get, the better I was. Like the rest of us, I often overlook the reality of things and try to make them as I would like them to have been. This is a fool’s game.

I recently found myself challenged by the quirky finger of reality and if the truth be told, I did not respond very well. In this instance, the snag had to do with T-R-A-V-E-L. You know better than I that the travel industry isn’t getting any easier. In fact, it appears to become more frustrating with each passing day.

And yet, as a card carrying motivational guru, when I have my game face on, I remind audiences that we are all being asked to perform on an imperfect game board. It is I who remind you that it is truly amazing that the world works as well as it does. But when it doesn’t, human nature kicks in and that is when we begin to ruin our own day.

The term that best describes this particular frame of mind is Emotional Intelligence. E.I. involves understanding how things work and not being surprised when they don’t work as planned. Emotional Intelligence is nothing more than a professional, experienced, and mature preventative mind-set.
